Summer will be winding down probably sooner than most people want. Still, there’s plenty of time to find fun centered on food and drink in Columbus. The event season is still in full swing in August and early September, so finding activities that appeal to everyone’s palette is easy.

Here is a look at a few events that feature a variety of styles sure to appeal to everyone, from the youngest to the youngest-at-heart.

Ohio State Fair

This one starts on July 27, but it runs until Aug. 7. This tradition, which has been around since 1850, has something for everyone — rides, animals, concerts and, of course, food. You can find all the details on the Ohio State Fair website.

Columbus Food Truck Festival

In its eleventh year, this year the Columbus Food Truck Festival will run for three days. Taking place at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard, the festival will host some of the best food trucks from around the state.

Food’s not all you’ll find, though. There will be music and lots of locally made goods to check out. You can learn more here.

Fiery Food Festival

This one’s for fans of the heat. The event takes place on Aug. 27 and 28 at the Main Street Bridge along Columbus’ Scioto Mile.

There will be live bands from the area playing this one, but the festival is centered on hot peppers … and lots of them. Local restaurants will join salsa and hot sauce purveyors to bring samples of their wares to the public. There are also some eating contests, an artisans’ market and food trucks as part of the event. Learn more about this event by going to their website at columbusfieryfoods.com.

Columbus Greek Festival

Taking place Sept. 2-5, the annual Greek Festival has been a longtime tradition for central Ohio residents. It takes place on the grounds of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on 555 N. High St.

The entertainment options include three groups of Greek Festival Folk Dancers. There is also the Hellenic Singers, a group that performs traditional Folk music from Greece. You are also able to tour the cathedral, which has ornate and beautiful art that goes back many years.

Of course, a huge part of the fest is the food — and there is plenty of it! Greek dishes such as souvlaki, spanakopita and gyros are available, as well as desserts and pastries like baklava and finikia.

The 2022 Lithopolis Honey Festival

For a total change of pace, how about some honey? The town of Lithopolis, which is close to Columbus, hosts this fun event for the whole family. Lithopolis Honeyfest takes place on Sept. 9 and 10.

This is going to be the place for you to find locally sourced honey, but it goes a bit beyond that. There is a honey-based bake-off contest, live hive inspections, a photo contest, the Busy Beehive for children’s crafts, arts and crafts displays and live music as part of the event.

There are also many area beekeepers on hand to talk about the trade and to even wear some of the little critters on their face as part of a “bee beard” contest. Don’t believe us? Go to this website to see some of those photos and get even more details on this fun event.
