Are you ready for summer fun? The greater Columbus, Ohio, metro area has so much to offer in 2022! Believe us, there really is something for everyone. Whether you are looking for indoor or outdoor activities, a perfect date night or a fun family outing, there will be plenty for you all summer long. Check out these five ways to have fun around the Columbus area this summer:

Arts. The Columbus Arts Festival, held along the downtown riverfront from June 10 through 12 this year, garners a lot of attention, as well as it should. 2022 is the festival’s 60th year, and organizers made sure it would come back strong. While the festival is a highlight of our Columbus summers, art lovers have many other options. You can visit the Columbus Museum of Art all summer long. Click here for a full calendar of summer events. You can check out the public art as you take a walk along the Scioto Mile. You might also want to visit the Fine Arts Exhibit during the Ohio State Fair at the Ohio Expo Center. This year the fair runs from July 27 through August 7. For more information and ideas about all things art in the area, visit the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s website.

Music. The Columbus Arts Festival isn’t the only place to find great music this summer. You can find a complete list of concerts for the year here. Besides concerts at bigger venues, you can find numerous opportunities for smaller concerts. Check out these free outdoor concerts. You are sure to find a concert that fits your style any day of the week. What are you looking for? Country, 80s favorites, R&B, jazz, rock? You might even discover new genres to love. Do keep in mind that while these concerts are free, many of them do require tickets, so you will want to plan. Also, many of these concerts will have food trucks and other activities available.

Theater. The theater district includes four large theater venues: The Palace, The Ohio, The Southern and The Lincoln. You will also find three smaller venues. No matter what type of performance you are looking for, you can find it in Columbus’s Theater District. These venues showcase both local and national performances of everything from comedy to drama including Broadway shows and dance troupes. In the Brewery District, you’ll be able to take in not just Ohio’s but America’s largest resident theater company, Shadowbox Live!.

Nature. Summer is the perfect time to get out and enjoy nature, even in the city! The Metro Park system offers so many opportunities. Hike or bike one of the trails. Fish or kayak on one of the creeks. Just let the kids play and enjoy nature in one of the playgrounds or natural play areas. There are also several nature centers and nature preserves in the parks. Or you can visit the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens for a truly enchanting experience.

Fireworks. Red, White & Boom. Finally, you won’t want to miss the return of Red, White & Boom! It’s only one night, but it is sure to be a highlight of the summer season. Besides the amazing fireworks extravaganza, you will enjoy a parade, street festival and live music.
